Orange Salad with Red Wine Syrup and Mint

If you make the syrup in advance and it becomes to thick, you can loosen it up by adding a small amount of warm water.
Ingredients
- 1 c red wine
- 1/3 c sugar
- 6 whole cloves
- 6 allspice berries
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 star anise
- 6 oranges
- 2 T torn fresh mint
Instructions
- In skillet, bring wine, sugar, cloves, allspice berries, cinnamon, and star anise, to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat to medium.
- Simmer wine mixture until syrupy, about 10 minutes.
- Strain syrup; let cool.
- Cut peel and white pith from oranges.
- Slice oranges into rounds; arrange on platter.
- Drizzle with syrup.
- Garnish with mint.
