Shamrock Puffs

Ingredients

  1. 1 (17.3 oz) pkg Puff Pastry Sheets, thawed according to pkg directions
  2. (6.7 oz) jar pesto
  3. 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Roll out a sheet of puff pastry into a 12-by-14-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  2. Cut a 1/2 inch thick strip from one long side (for the stems).
  3. Spread pesto on the rectangle, then roll both long sides toward the middle until they meet. Brush some beaten egg in the middle to help stick together.
  4. Cut the log into 1/2-inch-thick slices (24 total) and pinch the bottom of each slice to form a heart shape.
  5. Arrange three hearts together on a parchment lined baking sheet to create a shamrock shape, using beaten egg to "glue" the sides together.
  6. Cut the reserved strip of dough into stems; lightly press onto the shamrocks and brush the stems with more beaten egg.
  7. Repeat process with remaining puff pastry sheet and pesto.
  8. Bake at 400°F, about 15 minutes.
