Baked Shells

  1. 1 lb dry ziti or medium shell pasta
  2. 1 onion, chopped
  3. 1 lb lean ground beef
  4. 2 (26 oz) jars spaghetti sauce
  5. 6 oz provolone cheese, sliced
  6. 1 1/2 c sour cream, optional
  7. 6 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
  8. 2 T grated Parmesan cheese


  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  2. Add pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
  3. In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat.
  4. Add spaghetti sauce, and simmer 15 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  6. Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Layer as follows: 1/2 of the pasta, provolone cheese, sour cream (if using), 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining pasta, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture
  8. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.
