Haluski (Cabbage and Noodles) for a crowd

    This recipe makes a very large amount. Consider making half of the amount in a large skillet.


  1. 4 heads of cabbage, core removed, cut into bite-sized pieces
  2. 7 large onions, chopped
  3. 12 oz butter, (3 sticks)
  4. salt to taste
  5. pepper to taste
  6. 2 (16 oz) bags extra-wide egg noodles, cooked according to package directions
  7. 2 (16 oz) cartons cottage cheese (optional)


  1. Preheat roaster pan to medium high heat.
  2. Melt butter in a large roasting pan.
  3. Add onions and cook until softened.
  4. Adjust heat setting to make sure food does not burn, or cook to quickly.
  5. Add cabbage and cook until cabbage in softened, and cabbage and onions start to brown.
  6. Add egg noodles, stirring occasionally until noodles are warm.
  7. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve with a dollop of cottage cheese, if desired.
