Ingredients

    Cake

  1. 1 c butter (2 sticks)
  2. 1 c water
  3. 6 heaping T cocoa powder
  4. 1/2 c sour cream
  5. 2 c flour
  6. 2 c sugar
  7. 1/2 t salt
  8. 1 t baking soda
  9. 2 eggs
  10. Frosting

  11. 1/4 c butter (1/2 stick)
  12. 4 T cocoa powder
  13. 1 (1 lb) box powdered sugar
  14. 6 T milk
  15. 1 t vanilla
  16. 1 c chopped nuts, optional

Instructions

    Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Combine water, butter and cocoa powder in a pan heat to almost boiling, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat, add flour, sugar, and salt.
  4. Beat with mixer, until well mixed.
  5. Add sour cream, baking soda and eggs, mix well.
  6. Pour into greased 15x11 inch jellyroll pan.
  7. Bake 20-25 minutes in oven.
  8. Meanwhile, make frosting.
  9. Frosting

  10. Combine butter, milk, cocoa powder in a pan.
  11. Heat to almost boiling, stirring until bubbling.
  12. Beat in powdered sugar and vanilla and nuts, if using.
  13. Frost cake while hot, immediately out of the oven.
  14. Cool to room temperature before serving.
