Ingredients
Sauce
- 3/4 lb ground beef
- 3/4 lb sweet Italian sausage, bulk
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (12 oz) can tomato paste
- 1 T sugar
- 3/4 t salt
- 1/2 t oregano
- 1/8 t thyme
- 1/2 t pepper
- 1/8 t garlic powder
Lasagna
- 1 1/2 (24 oz) containers cottage cheese (36 oz total)
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 lb brick cheese, sliced (from deli).
- 6 Barilla lasagna noodles, cooked to package directions, and laid on wax paper
Instructions
Sauce
- In large skillet, cook ground beef, sausage, onion and garlic together. Drain grease. Set aside.
- In large bowl, combine tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, salt, oregano, thyme, pepper and garlic powder. Mix well to combine.
- Add reserved meat, stir to combine.
Lasagna
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- In medium bowl, mix cottage cheese and eggs together, stir till well combined. Set aside.
- In 9x13 inch baking dish, place a thin layer of sauce (about 1/3 of sauce) on bottom to coat.
- Lay three lasagna noodles across the sauce.
- Top with a layer of cottage cheese mixture (about 1/2 of mixture).
- Top with a layer of brick cheese slices.
- Repeat this process with another layer of sauce, noodles, cottage cheese, and brick cheese.
- Top with remaining 1/3 of sauce.
- Bake, uncovered, at 375°F for 1 hour.
- Allow lasagna to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
