Grandpap's Spaghetti Sauce

    Grandpap used to make this sauce when his family would come over for Sunday dinner. He made it a little different each time, depending on what he had, but this is the recipe he gave me. Thanks for all of the great memories Grandpap!

Ingredients

  1. 2 lb ground beef, browned and drained
  2. 2 (28 oz) cans crushed tomatoes
  3. 2 (28 oz) cans tomato sauce
  4. 1 (18 oz) can tomato paste
  5. enough water to rinse out cans
  6. one whole peeled onion
  7. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  8. 3 bay leaves
  9. pepper to taste
  10. 1 (26 oz) jar Ragu Old World Style Pasta Sauce
  11. pasta, cooked to pkg directions for serving
  12. grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Brown ground beef in large stock pot. Drain.
  2. Combine crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, onion, garlic, bay leaves, pepper and Ragu.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. Reduce heat to low, simmer, uncovered for 4 hours. If cooking for less than 4 hours, add a little sugar.
  5. Remove onion before serving.
  6. Serve over pasta with Parmesan cheese.
