Oven Kalua Pork, oven and (slow cooker) version

Pre-Notes

    This pork can also be served over coconut short grain white rice, instead of being served as a sandwich.

Ingredients

  1. 5 -6 lb pork butt roast
  2. 1 T Liquid Smoke Flavoring
  3. 2 1/2 T Hawaaiian sea salt, divided
  4. crusty rolls for serving

Instructions

    Oven Version

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Rub Liquid Smoke Flavoring and 1 1/2 T of salt into the skin of the pork. Wrap well in foil, and seal completely.
  3. Place in a roasting pan.
  4. Bake in 325°F oven until an internal temperature of 160°F is reached, about 5 hours.
  5. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before shredding.
  6. Sprinkle the shredded meat with the remaining 1 T salt.
  7. Serve on crusty rolls.
  8. Slow Cooker Version

  9. Place salted and Liquid Smoke seasoned roast in a slow cooker.
  10. Cover, and cook on Low for 16 to 20 hours, turning once during cooking time.
  11. Remove meat from slow cooker, and shred, adding remaining 1 T salt and drippings as needed to moisten.
  12. Serve on crusty rolls.
  13. This is great served with Creamy Coleslaw on top!
